Baby Mary Violet

If you love babies, bonnets, quilts, and all things beautiful, this sweet little darling’s pictures will be right up your alley. All babies are wonderful – especially SLP babies – but Mary Violet is just about as relaxed and content as they come. I don’t think I’ve ever heard her fuss for a prolonged period of time. She is such a doll baby and I enjoyed working with her so much! I may not have felt like Superwoman like I did photographing her twin sisters’ newborn portraits while I was heavily pregnant myself, but it’s not about me anyway. These should have been blogged months ago during our busy summer, so I apologize for them just now appearing on the blog. But she is well worth the wait!

Mary Violet’s first picture was taken to honor a dear friend of her mother’s who had her own little angel gain her wings. Her mom’s bonnets are featured in a few of the pictures – what a wonderful heirloom to share! And that amazing quilt was handmade by Mary Violet’s grandmother! I’ve been trying to convince her to make a quilt for me for about seven years now –  but they’re for family members only. Think they’ll adopt me?

Shearin Family Mini Session

It was truly a beautiful evening when we took these images –  I could tell that Fall was in the air (hallelujah!) because we weren’t completely drenched in sweat at the end of our session and we had a great time. By the way, if you ever need a dose of honesty ask a preschooler; they say the most absolutely hilarious things. Thank you so much, Shearin family, for letting me capture such sweet memories for y’all as a new family! Please email me with your top 10 portrait choices.

Everest VBS

I think most kids and parents in South Louisiana love when VBS time rolls around. My kids certainly love it! It ends up really taking an army to put on these productions, so be sure to thank your church’s VBS crew the next time that your kids go to one.

The Everest team at my church asked me to photograph their event this summer, and I was so happy to. I got to see the kids jump and dance and play and sing and – most importantly – learn about the Lord. It was great!

Section 3 Women’s Ministry Rally

I had the honor of being asked to photograph the Louisiana District United Pentecostal Church International’s Section 3 Women’s Ministry Rally. This is a service honoring and celebrating the women who live and worship within Section 3 of the LA District, although it is not restricted to just them (or women – quite a few supportive husbands came, too!).

It was a beautiful night of worship, Word, and fellowship and I thoroughly enjoyed being able to capture such a wonderful occasion. Be sure to keep an eye out for featured images and a brief article about the Rally in the Louisiana Challenger!

Welcome, Mary Violet

If you want pictures of your sweet little one from the very beginning of their life, but aren’t quite sure if you want the intimacy of birth photography, Fresh 48 portraits are the perfect solution!

Fresh 48 sessions happen either at the hospital or in your home within the first 48 hours after the birth of your child. These are more lifestyle sessions that really just capture the natural beauty of the moment and the intense love and bond between you (and siblings, if you want them involved).

Sweet Mary Violet is the fifth baby of my best friend. I have been able to do Fresh 48 sessions for her past three kids, and if she wanted to keep having babies for me to photograph I’d be okay with it. haha!

In all seriousness, Fresh 48 sessions are really beautiful sessions and I love being able to capture that fresh love and the overwhelming beauty of the arrival of a new life.

Here’s little MV’s Fresh 48 session.

Au Revoir, Mikala!

My sweet younger sisters came to visit this past Spring – yes, I know I should have blogged then – and I couldn’t let them go without pictures. Partly, because it was fun and I wanted pictures together. Partly, because one of them is off to college this semester and she needed some senior portraits that would be completely different than her friends. 😉

We had an absolute blast and they allowed me to style them, and boss them around a bit. I took them to my alma mater and got some shots around the beautiful grounds of LSU. It was so much fun for me to be able share that with them! They were 10 and 7 the last time I got to show them LSU, which was when they came in town for my wedding about a decade ago (they spent the night with me the night before my wedding and we watched Disney movies and ate junk food). This time it was while my oldest younger sister was applying for colleges and my baby sister is in high school and will be thinking about colleges soon.

I even took them down to the swamp and they got to see an alligator. It was a baby, but they absolutely freaked out, and I just got the greatest kick out of it.

Now my sweet sister is off to college in South Carolina – all the cries for her not going to LSU and being near me! Good luck on your freshman year, Mikala!
